HOME SAFETY
Seniors and disabled persons face two major safety issues when making plans to stay at home:
1) The design of their home does not allow easy mobility or accessibility. 2) Their physical abilities have declined and simple functions like taking a shower or rising from the toilet have become hazardous daily chores. As a result, their greatest risk is a tripping or falling injury. The U.S. National Institutes of Health reports that each year more than 2 million seniors and independent living people are treated in emergency rooms for fall-related injuries.
Common injuries include slipping in the shower, falling out of wheelchair, tripping on furniture and losing balance on stairs. Home safety must be a top priority for seniors and their caregivers!
